This can be done through the Game menu in the Steam client. If Cross-Play is not available for MudRunner something that might work that's worth trying is those that have it through Epic Games add the game to their Steam Library List as a non-steam game.
Look in to the Epic accounts to see if cross play is available for MudRunner.
It is intended so PC's and Console gamers can connect with each other but it might also work with different installation sources for the same game. To determine whether it's possible to connect Epic to Steam servers to each other the users that have it through Epic need to check their account and look in to what Epic has titled Cross-Play. It should land everyone who joins the host from the friends list in that game where it was left when it was saved to be continued.
